Fire Safety Tests

Fire safety tests are testing of products for compliance with the mandatory requirements of the Technical Regulations on Fire Safety Requirements or testing for compliance with a particular GOST performed on a voluntary basis.

Testing for the fire safety requirements are carried out in specially created conditions in accredited testing laboratories according to state standards of the Russian Federation. Test methods are separately defined for each type of products by state standards.

According to the Technical Regulations on Fire Safety Requirements, substances and materials are classified according to the following parameters:

  • Combustibility;
  • Inflammability;
  • Surface spread of flame;
  • Smoke generation ability;
  • Toxicity of combustion products.

Combustibility

In combustibility, construction materials are divided into combustible (G) and non-combustible ones (NG).

Combustible construction materials are divided into the following groups:

  1. Low combustible (G1);
  2. Moderately combustible (G2);
  3. Normally combustible (G3);
  4. Highly combustible (G4).

Inflammability

In inflammability, combustible construction materials (including floor carpets) are divided into the following groups:

  1. Low inflammable (V1);
  2. Moderately inflammable (V2);
  3. Highly inflammable (V3).

Surface Spread of Flame

In speed of surface spread of flame, combustible construction materials (including floor carpets) are divided into the following groups:

  1. Non flame spreading (RP1);
  2. Low flame spreading (RP2);
  3. Moderately flame spreading (RP3);
  4. Highly flame spreading (RP4).

Smoke Generation Ability

In smoke generation ability, combustible construction materials are divided into the following groups of materials with:

  1. Low smoke generation ability (D1);
  2. Moderate smoke generation ability (D2);
  3. High smoke generation ability (D3).

Toxicity of Combustion Products

In toxicity of combustion products, combustible construction materials are divided into the following groups:

  1. Low hazardous (T1);
  2. Moderate hazardous (T2);
  3. Highly hazardous (T3);
  4. Extremely hazardous (T4).

Fire Resistance Limits

Fire resistance limits are determined by the time of achieving one or several sequential features of limit states:

  • Loss of bearing capacity (R);
  • Loss of integrity (E);
  • Thermal insulating ability (I);
  • Limit value of heat flux density (W);
  • Smoke and gas tightness (S).

Fire Hazard Classes of Structures

In fire hazard, construction structures are divided into the following classes:

  1. Non fire hazardous (K0);
  2. Low fire hazardous (K1);
  3. Moderately fire hazardous (K2);
  4. Fire hazardous (K3).

Fire resistance tests are aimed at determining the time from initiation of thermal impact on the structure till occurrence of one or several sequential limit states in fire resistance taking into account the functional purpose of the construction.
